Iphone Firmware 1.1.3 Jailbreak Method Finally

Recently i was seeking about how to unlock iphone new firmware and found the method .Well, the iPhone Dev Team has done it again. A working jailbreak for 1.1.3 is finally here.

STATEMENT OF RISK

As all upgrades are risky, this one is doubly so. You may have to restore your phone using iTunes and start again if it fails. Make sure to back up first!

Let's continue

This jailbreak, like the 1.1.2 jailbreak, comes as an upgrade. This means you need to have a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone already, before you can begin.

Update - unlocked phones appear to remain unlocked and work properly after the update, according to scattered reports.

MAC VERSION - Download the 1.1.3 package maker and open it, then run Run_This. Read carefully, press Enter when necessary, and the image will be uploaded to your phone.

Here's how you do it:
- Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed.
- Plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
- Download, extract, and run ibrickr (ibrickr.exe in the archive).
- iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update.
- iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware (make sure to read everything thoroughly).
- iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet.
- When iBrickr finishes (should take about 10 minutes), it will tell you to go to Installer and install the "1.1.3 soft upgrade" package. Do that.
- When the installer finishes (this should take another 10-15 minutes), your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.

Now you may be wondering how this jailbreak works. Here's a breakdown:

- iBrickr grabs the 1.1.3 iPhone firmware image and extracts, decrypts, and decompresses the disk image.
- Then it applies a patch, jailbreaking the disk image and activating it, and also installing Installer.app.
- It uploads this new modified image to the phone, as 113_upgrade_image.bin.
- The "1.1.3 soft upgrade" app flashes the phone with the image and reboots.
- You have a perfect, jailbroken, upgraded 1.1.3 phone, with all your settings and music intact!

Regarding the drama about this release - there is identifying information in the patches, that contains pieces of the firmware as markers for what changes should be made to it. None of it is in any sort of useful form until it is merged again with a real 1.1.3 firmware image, which is downloaded directly from Apple.

Wi-Fi Without Routers on XP/VISTA

Here is a short guide to help have the benefits of a wifi router without actually having it on Windows XP.

SHARING YOUR EXISTING ETHERNET INTERNET CONNECTION

1. Go to Control Panel -> Network Connection.
2. Right click on Your Ethernet connection and click on “Properties”.
3. Go to “Advanced” Tab.
4. Check “Allow Other NEtwork….. Internet Connection”
5. In the Drop down Below select the Wifi connection of your pc. If it is disabled, it will be showing your wifi connection already.
6. Click on “Settings”
7. Check the protocols you need to share. Jamal has explained on them.I normally use only http and https.
8. Click on “Ok”.you reach the network connection page. The sharing part is now over.

FINDING DNS SERVER IP ADDRESS.

1. Click on Start -> Run
2. Type in cmd in the Run prompt
3. In the new window type “ipconfig /all” and press enter.
4. Note down your DNS server ip address from the screen.

CONFIGURING THE WIFI

1. Go again to Control Panel -> network connections.
2. Right click on your WIFI connection and click “properties”.
3. Go to”Wireless Network” Tab.
4. The “use windows to configure my wireless network connection” should be checked.
5. In the preferred network connection section click on add button
6. Enter a name of your wish to the network name.
7. Network authentication is “open”
8. Change Data Encryption to “Disabled”
9. Check the “this is a computer to computer …. not used” connection.
10. Click “Ok”.
11. Click on general tab. select “internet protocol(tcp/ip) and click on properties button.
12. Now type 192.168.0.1 in ip address, 255.255.255.0 in subnet mask, leave default gateway empty.
13. Fill in the DNS server entry which you had noted down earlier.
14. Click on “OK” and your network is set.

Your network should appear on the wifi network list now. Search for wlan on your phone. Connect and enjoy browsing on your phone.

What You Need:

a) A laptop/desktop with WiFi capability and Windows Vista. (Windows XP users you’re on your own, my XP machine doesn’t have wireless so can’t test, however the settings are almost similar)

On your Laptop/Desktop:

01) Turn on the WiFi switch on your laptop and make sure the WiFi light/indicator/whatever is on. And make sure you are connected to the internet.

02) Click on the two monitors on the bottom right. (in the system tray on the taskbar)

03) In the small window thing that pops up select Network and Sharing Center.

04) Click on manage wireless networks.

05) Click on Adapter properties (windows coloured shield icon) in the actions bar roughly 1/3 of the way down.

06) If your UAC is on, click continue. If not you won’t know what I’m talking about, just move on.

07) Click on “Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

08) Click on properties.

09) Select use the following IP address: and if there is another 192.168.0.x address and subnet mask already in there, just leave it alone otherwise enter the IP address as 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 leave the default gateway blank.

10) In the preferred and alternate DNS servers you need to enter the IP addresses of your ISP DNS servers. This information is probably available on the website of your ISP or on their telephone network. If they dont give you just tell them you have an Apple Mac. (they cannot get the IP address automatically and have to be configured manually)

11) Close all dialogs and return to the desktop.

12) Click on two monitors on the bottom right (in the system tray inside the taskbar) again and select “Connect To a network”.

13) In the window that pops up, right click your internet connection and select properties.

14) Go to the Sharing tab.

15) Enable the “Allow other users to connect to through this computer’s internet connection” and in the “Home Networking Connection” box select “Wireless Network Connection”.

16) Now click on the settings button (if the UAC prompt pops up, press continue).

17) Enable the HTTP server and HTTPS server. If you want to receive/send email on your phone using any application other than the phone’s web browser, enable the POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP servers. Make sure not to enable too many, the more you enable the more chance there is of your computer getting broken into by hackers wirelessly. Especially unnecessarily enabling the SMTP is a no-no. Just use Gmail. Never enable the Remote Desktop or others unless you want someone to wirelessly access your desktop (and the whole computer by extension).

18) Close everything else and return to your desktop.

19) Click on the two monitors on the bottom right. (in the system tray inside the taskbar)

20) In the small window thing that pops up select Network and Sharing Center.

21) Click on manage wireless networks.

22) Click on Add (green plus icon) in the actions bar roughly 1/3 of the way down.

23) Click on Create an ad-hoc network.

24) Click Next.

25) Enter a network name. I entered N95.

26) In security type, select no authentication (open) <– hopefully in the future I’ll get a secure network to work. 27) No need of selecting save this network. Click Next. 28) Hopefully your ad-hoc (direct) WLAN network has been set up. Close everything else and return to your desktop.

How to speed up Firefox

FIX MEMORY LEAK IN FIREFOX

1. Open Firefox, Type "about:config" without quotes into the address bar and hit enter/click Go.

2. Right-click anywhere, select New, then Integer. In the dialog prompt that appears, type:

browser.cache.memory.capacity

3. Click OK. Another dialog prompt will appear. This is where you decide how much memory to allocate to Firefox. This depends on how much RAM your computer has, but generally you don't want to allocate too little (under 8MB), but if you allocate too much, you might as well not do this. A good recommended setting is 16MB. If you want 16MB, enter this value into the dialog prompt:

16384

(Why 16384 instead of 16000?
Because computers use base-12 counting. Thus 16 megabytes = 16384 bytes. Likewise, if you want to double that and allocate 32MB, you'd enter 32768.)

4. Click OK to close the dialog box, then close all instances of Firefox and restart. If your Firefox still uses the same amount of memory, give it a few minutes and it should slowly clear up. If that fails, try a system reboot.

Some times Firefox slows down dramatically.

This trick is used to prevent such thing.

Unlock Iphone 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 firmware

Unlock your iPhone for free - no computer necessary!

First, thanks to everyone who made this possible. Iphone Dev team who made the sim-unlock application used in the tutorial, Installer.app team, geohot, Iphonesimfree and all others. No need to disassemble your phone anymore, and no need to input commands manually.

Warning! Firmware version 1.1.2 is now released. If you bought a phone that had 1.1.2 preinstalled (it shows a picture of a cable and the iTunes icon), it is not possible to unlock it. If you did not have this firmware when you bought the phone, i do not recomment to update to this version yet. It's very important that you don't let iTunes restore to 1.1.2 as well, so always select firmware manually by holding Shift/Option key while clicking Restore. Details about restoring/upgrading here.

This tutorial assumes that your iPhone has firmware version 1.1.1. If you are unsure, here is how to check: On the emergency dial screen dial *3001#12345#* and tap Versions. Firware version should be 04.01.13_G. If it's 03.14.08_G you have v1.0.2 and need to update it to 1.1.1 first. Read here first if you previously unlocked your phone.

NEW! If you have an unlocked 1.0.2 iPhone, or upgraded to 1.1.1 and have "damaged" imei (0049) you need to repair your phone. I have now put together the ultimate repair solution - this is the absolutely easiest way to repair the phones (virginize). To do so, just add http://i.unlock.no/ as a Source in Installer, make sure BSD Subsystem is installed (else it's in the System category) and install The Virginizer found in the Unlocking Tools category. There's two versions, use the one corresponding to your Modem firmware. Click here for more details. And remember, you got it here first!

Bypass activation and prepare phone for software installation

Make sure you have a SIM-card with PIN turned off, and power on your phone (the supplied AT&T card works fine).
On the activation screen, slide for emergency and dial: *#301# to make the phone call itself. (If the incoming call dialog quickly disappears but it keeps ringing, just dial 0 (remove *#301# first), and it will call itself)
Answer the call, and tap on Hold

Phone will call it self again, tap Decline. You will now be returned to the normal dialer.
Tap on contacts, and tap the + icon to add a new. The only info you are going to add to this contact are two URL's. To add a URL, tap Add new URL. The first URL is prefs followed by a colon: prefs: and the second is jailbreakme.com. Tap Save.

Your contact now has two "web pages" - tap on the first one (prefs. This will take you to the settings dialog. The reason you want this, is because you need to connect to a Wi-Fi network, so tap on Wi-Fi, and get connected to a network, and make sure the icon on top of the screen is indicating that you are connected. While you are in the settings dialog, you should also set: General → Auto-Lock → Never.

Now, press the home button, and again, slide for emergency dial 0, Answer the call, Hold and Decline the new call so that you get to the contacts. Tap on your contact (No Name), and this time tap on the other home page, jailbreakme.com
Safari will launch and show you a webpage. Read through the text, before you Install AppSnapp

Phone will return to activation screen, but don't panic, just wait.
Phone should automaticly restart after almost a minute. . If it does not restart withing 2 minutes, click here.

When the phone starts again, it should no longer say slide for emergency, but rather Slide to unlock It means it was successfull! Activation is now bypassed, and phone prepared for software installation! (If you are going to use an AT&T SIM, you won't need to do the next step.)
Unlock the SIM-lock

Open installer, and install the update if prompted.
Go to sources and tap Edit and Add
Add this URL: http://i.unlock.no
Tap Done and then Refresh
Go to Install (at bottom) and scroll down to the Unlocking Tools category and install AnySIM
When installed you can press the home button, and you will find a new AnySIM icon on your home screen. Launch it and follow the instructions.
The unlocking process will take about 5-10 minutes, in the end it should say it was successful!
To clean up your phone, launch Installer and uninstall AnySIM. Then go to Settings → General → Auto-Lock and set it to a prefered value.
Congratulations, you are done!

A few tweaks

If you want to enable the International menu, install Enable International menu which is found in the Unlocking Tools category. This will let you choose keyboards, and set your phone to use your prefered regional settings, like date and phone number formatting. Be alerted though - it looks like Apple haven't finished this feature completely yet (which is probably why it's deactivated) so there may be some issues. In my case Fahrenheit and Celsius is mixed up in the Weather application for instance!

By default, the EDGE settings found in Settings → General → Network → EDGE are not saved when phone is restarted. To fix this, install EDGE Settings fix which is found in the Unlocking Tools category..

If YouTube does not work ("You must first connect to iTunes..."), try to install YouTube activation which is found in the Unlocking Tools category. Also make sure that the phone has correct date.

If you for some reason need to deliver your phone to Apple (service etc.), i recommend that you revert the unlock first so that they (hopefully) can't see it's been unlocked. Install OneSIM which is found in the Unlocking Tools category, and tap on the new icon it creates to run it. After you are done, do a restore in iTunes.

Frequently asked questions and problems

Nothing happens after i visit jailbreakme.com

If you visit jailbreakme.com, install AppSnapp, get thrown back to the activtion screen and you have waited more then 3-5 minutes but phone does not restart - try restarting your phone manually. If phone starts normally everything is fine. If you still only get to the activation screen it did not work. Usually this is because there is a problem on the server, or maybe your internet connection. Wait some time (a few minutes if you are impatient, or a few hour if you want to be sure) and try again.
How can i upgrade a new unactivated phone?

Just put it in recovery mode, and it will automatically restore to the latest firmware. It might be safer to manually download and select the 1.1.1 firmware.
How should i upgrade or restore my phone?

To enter recovery mode, connect the phone to the computer and press and hold the Power button (on top) and the Home button (on bottom front) simultaneously. After about 15 seconds phone will appear to turn off, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button. After about 15 seconds the computer and iTunes will detect the phone in recovery mode, and you can perform a restore. IMPORTANT: If you just click the restore button, it will restore it with the latest firmware. It's much safer to manually select firmware instead. If you want to manually select a different firmware you can hold down SHIFT key (Windows) or Option/ALT-key (Mac) when clicking the Restore button, and it will let you choose firmware file. Download the wanted firmware here (you would normally want 1.1.1).
My phone is already unlocked - can i update to 1.1.1?

Not straight away! The old unlock software's (before anySIM 1.1, except iphonesimfree.com's software) had serious flaws, making the phone unusable in later firmware. Before you update your phone you will need to repair your phone by "virginizing" the phone (baseband) firmware. Below are the ultrasimple instructions
How to "Virginize" an unlocked phone before update to 1.1.1

Ignore all long and complex tutorials - I have set up a fully automatic script that will repair the phone so that you can upgrade it.
Set Settings → General → Auto Lock → Never
Make sure Modem firmware is 03.14.08_G. Check this in Settings → General → About.
Start Installer and update it if it asks. Tap on Sources, Edit, and Add http://i.unlock.no/ as a repository.
Make sure you have BSD Subsystem installed, if not, go to System category and install it.
Now, install The Virginizer found in the Unlocking Tools category. This will take about 10 minutes to complete.
How to "Virginize" if you already upgraded and have 04.01.13_G.

You would want to do this if you upgraded to 1.1.1, and now have 0049xxx IMEI, and Modem version 04.01.13_G. Check this in Settings → General → About.
Set Settings → General → Auto Lock → Never
Install BSD SubSystem found in System Category.
Go to Sources and tap edit and add http://i.unlock.no/ (if you haven't already).
Now install "The Virginizer" found in Unlocking Tools category. This will take almost 10 minutes.

How do i downgrade a 1.1.2 phone.

Downgrade the main firmware:

Connect the phone to the computer and launch iTunes.
Restore your phone like explained in details here.
You will get an error when restore is complete, just ignore it and run AppTapInstaller.exe (to Mac users: iNdependence should do the same.
AppTapInstaller.exe will fail, but your phone will get to the Activation Screen now!
When on the activation screen, just follow my tutorial to jailbreak and bypass activation
Now your phone main firmware is ok, but to get the phone part working properly you should also downgrade your baseband firmware. At the moment this is NOT possible if your phone already had 1.1.2 when you bought it (meaning it has the new bootloader). If you accidentally upgraded your phone to 1.1.2 and want to go back to 1.0.2 or 1.1.1, read on.
Downgrade the baseband firmware:

Make sure Modem version is 04.02.13_G in Settings → General → About.
Set Settings → General → Auto Lock → Never
Start Installer and install BSD SubSystem found in System Category.
Go to Sources and tap edit and add http://i.unlock.no/
Now install "BB Downgrader (1.1.2)" found in Unlocking Tools category. This will take around 5 minutes.
When done, restore your phone to get 1.1.1 firmware reinstalled.
When phone have been restored, you can Activate and unlock as normal.
Can't find AnySIM - Unlocking Tools category is missing

YouTube is not working

If YouTube does not work ("You must first connect to iTunes..."), try to install YouTube activation which is found in the Unlocking tools-category after you have added my repository (see previous question)
Is the unlock permanent? Can i restore my phone or upgrade it?

This unlock method is based on a firmware patch, so everytime the baseband firmware is flashed, the unlock will not work anymore. You should be able to restore without loosing the unlock, and you should also be able to upgrade to future firmwares as long as the baseband firmware is not updated, but never perform a software update before you have specifically read that updating is safe.

Tips and tricks

Some of these tricks require computer skills. Don't ask me for help.
SMS recieved from internet is scrambled/not working?

For some ridiculous reason, Apple did not add real support for the SMS standard. The result is that SMS sent with a alphanumeric/non standard number will either not be recieved at all or the text will get scrambled as shown on the screenshot below. This bug may even damage the SMS database on your phone. It took Apple some time, but in 1.1.2 it's finally fixed, so we can just use the phone application from 1.1.2 on 1.1.1 (1.0.2 or older is not supported currently).

How to fix the SMS problem easily:

Open installer, and tap Sources, Edit and Add.
Type in http://i.unlock.no/ and Ok then Done.
Now tap on Install at the bottom and scroll down to the Unlocking Tools category
Install SMS Fix
When done installing, reboot your phone and it should work
Note: I have not throughly tested this, so there may be side effects i'm not aware of yet. But you can just uninstall the package to revert the changes. I only tested on 1.1.1.
Sometimes the phone displays the phone numbers instead of the names?

There's a bug in the iPhone software that will cause problems with detecting the numbers stored in your contacts, if iPhone is used outside the supported countries. I have set up a fully automatic fix for this (thanks to Dev team for patched files), that will fix this problem.

Start Installer and install the package called Phone # to name fix located in the Unlocking Tools category (i.unlock.no must be added as a Source to see this category).
Configuring EDGE settings (internet)?

If you have firmware 1.01 or later you can go to Settings → General → Network → EDGE to configure EDGE. Check your provider's website for settings.

Note for 1.1.1 users: For some reason v1.1.1 firmware will not save the settings after reboot. I have added a little fix, which is available in my repository for Installer.app: http://i.unlock.no/ - descriptions on adding my repository is here (step 1-4)

/System/Library/Frameworks/AddressBookUI.framework/ABPhoneFormats.plist Download this file from your phone. The file is stored in binary format, so you'll need to convert it to text. Now save this file and open it in a text editor. Change the formatting under us to look like you want (if you find your region in the file, just copy from your region to the us). There's probably some way to just make it use your language (instead of 'us'), but i don't know where you specify that. When you are done changing formatting, save the file and upload it to the iphone in same directory you found it. You don't need to convert i back to binary.
Update for 1.1.1 users: In previous versions locale settings did not apply to number formatting. I noticed that in 1.1.1 it does, so it's better to change the phone's locale configuration instead of changing the formatting manually. Install "Enable International Menu" found in the Unlocking Tools category.

Making the carrier name/logo fit without scrolling

Apple left a rather small space for operator name, so if it's above 7(?) characters, it will scroll, and display only first part (click picture at right). I found a way to decrease the font size, making it fit.

Load the following file in a Hex editor:
System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/SpringBoard Font size should be at offset 7C176. In HxD, just click "Search → Goto" and set offset to 7C176 as shown in picture below. If the font size is not at this offset in your file, you can try a text string search for loopOperatorToBeginning, it should be right above that.

As you can see, you can also change the font type, and color of the text. Default is size 14. Changing it to 11 or 12 should do.

My comments about the iPhone unlocking solutions

I've been unlocking cell phones for more than 5 years, and even though i don't develope the solutions myself, i know pretty much how it works - and iPhone does not appear to be different from others, except for the fact that it needs activation in addition to unlocking.
There are two types of unlocking: "Firmware-patch" and "Direct unlock"

Firmware patch is simply patching the firmware in order to bypass the unlock. Phone is still "locked", firmware is just tricked into believing it's not. An example would be when phone startsup and runs code "if(phoneIsLocked == false) doStartphone();" - a patch would simply change "false" to "true", causing it to run doStatphone() even when it's locked. If firmware is upgraded/restored, this patch will of course be removed and were back to start again. This type is in the industry considered as a semi-unlock, and only accepted as a last resort if no other way is found (usually, it's just a temporary solution)

Direct-unlock is the real way of unlocking phones. Usually it involves just rebuilding the entire lockdata in EEPROM with "blank" unlocked data. Or the safest way is to get the phone itself to clear the data by making it unlock itself - which could be achieved by for example finding the unlock codes and feed it with them. This would leave absolutely no trace of "hacking" - it will be 100% correctly done, as intended by the manufacturer.

(SIM-cloning/Turbosim is not mentioned, because that's not considered unlocking.)
When a phone is unlocked (in a proper way), it will always be unlocked. Firmware upgrades never touches EEPROM, including lock data.

Here are my thought's on how iphone unlocking works - of course, it's just my thoughts based on my experience with other phones, and i may very well be wrong.
IPFS unlock solution is permanent, and will handle all future updates Yes, i'm fairly sure that a phone unlocked with IPFS is a proper unlock (not firmware patch), making it permanent. But of course, unlike other's, iphone needs activation and IPFS therefore completely dependent on activation, which is depending on jailbreak. But when it comes to the operator lock itself, IPFS's permanently unlocks it.

I'm not sure exactly how IPFS does unlock it, but i'm feeling very sure it's one of these:
1. IPFS reads data from the baseband/EEPROM, and rebuilds the lock area in EEPROM with proper data - without any lock. This is exactly the same done on almost all other phones.
2. IPFS patches the baseband, but only as a temporary step in order to achive the above. When it's finished, it doesn't matter if the patch is removed (bb upgraded), because phone is already unlocked.

AnySIM and the other solutions are fimware patch solutions and will never survive baseband flashing/upgrade. Unlike IPFS (if IPFS also patches firmware), AnySIM patches firmware in order to bypass the lock, not in order to unlock it - or at least it's not unlocking it properly. The fact that anysim unlocked phones are bricked after upgrading, must be caused by changes the anySIM solution does to EEPROM, which is not properly done, and makes it "corrupted" as seen from the new firmware.

In my opinion there's no reason to be so negative about IPFS. They did the real unlock and so far noone have been able to recreate their solution. So don't expect a free real solution for 1.1.1 appearing very soon either. A free patch-unlock though is probably already possible now that they have decrypted the ramdisk, i will try that tomorrow. Of course iphone dev team are doing the most important work, and let's hope they soon will be able to work out a direct unlock solution as well.

Feel free to correct me, i already mentioned this is just how i think it works.

9. Finally, restart your computer.
10. You now have a faster computer and 1-2gb of virtual RAM!

Here's a great tip to speed up your browsing of Windows XP machines. Its actually a fix to a bug installed as default in Windows 2000 that scans shared files for Scheduled Tasks. And it turns out that you can experience a delay as long as 30 seconds when you try to view shared files across a network because Windows 2000 is using the extra time to search the remote computer for any Scheduled Tasks. Note that though the fix is originally intended for only those affected, Windows 2000 users will experience that the actual browsing speed of both the Internet & Windows Explorers improve significantly after applying it since it doesn't search for Scheduled Tasks anymore. Here's how :

Open up the Registry and go to :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace

Under that branch, select the key :

{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

and delete it.

This is key that instructs Windows to search for Scheduled Tasks. If you like you may want to export the exact branch so that you can restore the key if necessary.

This fix is so effective that it doesn't require a reboot and you can almost immediately determine yourself how much it speeds up your browsing processes.

In continuation to my last post to speed up your internet without any software,here is few more tricks

In order to fix this just follow these easy steps:

1. Click on Start, Run, gpedit.msc, .

2. On the window that will show up, click on Administrative Templates, Network, QoS Packet Scheduler

3. On the right side pane, double click Limit reservable bandwidth, the window shown on Figure 2 will show up. Change this configuration from “not configured” to “Enabled” and the reduce Bandwidth limit (%) from 20% to zero
4. Click on Ok and restart your computer.

It seems that Windows XP reserves 20% of the available bandwidth even if this option is not configured and even if you don’t use QoS (Quality of Service) feature (which is disabled by default).

Keep in mind that there are several other reasons for your download speed not reaching the labeled speed of your Internet connection such as:

The labeled speed of your Internet connection is its maximum speed, not meaning that you will be able to always get that download speed. Your broadband operator only guarantees this speed between your home (or office) and their network.
High traffic on your service provider network.
High traffic on the server you are downloading a file.
Speed limit on the server you are downloading a file (e.g. if the server has its download speed limited to 2 Mbps you won’t be able to reach a higher speed than that).
Route from your home or office to the server where the file is located.
Your Internet connection being shared with other computers at your home or office.
Downloading several files at the same time with P2P programs, eating up part of the available bandwidth of your Internet connection.

First thing to do is run samctrl2.exe and find out what it does and what type of protection it has. You should find it is a commercial keylogger that uses a serial protection scheme. So go to 'Register' and type a bogus code into the field like '666 0wnz j00' and press register and see what happens:

So now close SAM and make a copy of it called samctrl2.exx you do this because now if we make a mistake we can just replace the file and its back to normal.

Now open up Win32DASM. Go to Disaseembler >> Open File to Disassemble and then open up samctrl2.exx

The program should load without any errors. Now goto Refs >> String Data References and scroll down the list till you get to the window contents we retrieved earlier "Wrong registration code entered." double click this message and clse the dialog box. You should see the message on the screen, if not go back and do it again.

You have now found the error message saying your registration code is incorrect, scroll up a bit and you should see:

Now just by looking at this we see that it compares two value with 'cmp' and if they are not equal 'jne' it sends us to our little message, but if you read the Dialog messages below it says "You registered me already.... Thanks " So this is obviously not what we are after, so scroll up a bit and you will notice two references, 004054A1(C) and 004054BB(C)

The (C) tells us it was a conditional jump, in other words it compared two values and if they were correct it showed us this message, so scroll up to the first call 004054A1

Now take a look at the two calls, first call is a simple test and jump if the test fails 'jne' and the second test compares the length of the string to see if it is larger than nine characters, so we have to patch both of these dont we. So put the green bar in Win32DASM over 004054A1 and look down in the status bar, you should see @offset 000048A1h

The 'h' in 000048A1h means hexidecimal so ignore it. Open up hiew (hackers view) and open up samctrl2.exe

Press F4 then F3 to get into ASM mode. Press F5 and type in 000048A1. You should see the line you saw in Win32DASM

Ok, now the 'oF85' refers to the 'jne' and the 94000000 tells us that it will jump 94 bytes foward, and ofcourse this isnt what we want, so press F3 and change that line to:

Mac OS X - Leopard -> OS for the 21 century

I just went through a preview of the next release of Mac OS X 10 - Leopard. It really is a stepping stone in the world of OS. Steve and his team of SE's have skinned the graphics to a next level and idealized concepts for the 21st century Mac users. Below are some snippets of the features, Leopard has to offer.....

1. Time Machine
This the most amazing 'Backup & Recovery feature introduced in any OS till date. The concept - implemntation makes the idea a cake walk but believe me, this is one feature which is the 'hightlight' of the version.

2. Core Animation
Well, the maestro has given the creative geeks a ease-of-use tool with which wonders can be created in reality on the screen.

3. WebClip / DashCode
I always wondered as to why is there no tool from Apple to create widgets easily (for end users) or design with a level of coding (for developers). Mac has the answer in the form of Web Clip (for end users) and DashCode (for developers).

4. Mail / iChat
All these days I was under the impression that Apple has stopped thinking about upgrading the Mail / Chat apps on the OS X, since loadz of open source communities have come up with better clients. However, with Leopard comes some addition to both Mail and iChat to make them better and add some options. However, iChat's complete features can be explored with another Mac users using iChat client. However, the added features of Tabbed Chat and iChat Theatre on iChat, Notes, To Do's and Stationary on Mail, things are much better.

5. Spaces
I would really not pat Steve for implmenting this cuz this is exactly the copy of Workspace feature on Linux OS. Steve and his Co has ridiculed MS for copying loadz of features on OS X in Vista. Since this is a copy of a feature designed on Linux already, I felt that it should not be highlighted, but the meastro thinks the other way around and features it as on of the Features of Leopard. I must say that the Graphic implemenation of work'Spaces' makes it look awesome.

6. 64 bit / Universal Applications
From a developers pov, these 201 days (from the day Apple moved onto Intel) has been a wild ride, I suppose. These guys managed to port all their applications to a whole new processor technology. Along with this, they are offering a feature in Leopard where-in all apps designed for 32 bit are gonna work on this 64 bit ready OS. This indeed is one of the many unsaid / no-talked stuff because it is boring to listen to from a end user perspective. However as a developer, my heart really goes for the guys who were belted to the core to achieve the deadline. My respect for these guys grows everytime I visit apple.com. They are also working towards setting up a bench mark so wider range of applications can be made to work upon. This has been the standout acheivement after Time Machine for me. Really Amazing!!!!

7. Spotlight
Hmm...Pretty much the same, but 2 new features has been included. You can now search for computers and contents of servers in a network. This is really cool feature. The other one being that, applications can be launched from the search result window by just clicking on the item or tapping Return button. Makes it much more easier to find and access anything you want.

Well, the above mentioned features are the best among the many that I came across. Leopard is going be released next Spring.

One more introduction to Mac HardWare community is Mac Pro which succeeds PowerMac G5(this is a history). Amazing hardware with cool capacity in terms of processing speed (upto 3 GHz), storage (upto 4 TBytes), Quad Xeon processors and some port connections on the front of the cabinet along with the regular ports on the back. Pretty cool.

Recently one of my friends got struck with such a menace on orkut.What it does is you will get a scrap (blank one most probably) and as soon as you open your scrapbook you will be logged out.Moreover that scrap isnt able to delete easily.

How it is done?

Basically its a bug in orkut right now,which is not fixed.People are combining malacious javascript with flash Activex.So as soon as you open your scrapbook you get logged.I m not sure of the fact that it is stealing cookies also or not.

Basic cure:In IE Go to internet options->security-->custom level

Then disable active scripting and Activex control there in that options.

Close browser and reopen it.Login again into orkut account and try and delete it.After that it would be ok.

Today i found a ultimate toolkit to break through the securties of windows vista home/basic.the tool is called "oem bios emulation toolkit for windows vista x86 v1.0" bypasses all the security/activation features required to use your Vista hassle free.

How does it work?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Microsoft allows large hardware manufacturers (e.g. ASUS, HP, Dell) to ship their products
containing a Windows Vista installation that does NOT require any kind of product activation as
this might be considered an unnecessary inconvenience for the end-user.
Instead these so-called ‘Royalty OEMs’ are granted the right to embed certain license information
into their hardware products, which can be validated by Windows Vista to make obtaining further
activation information (online or by phone) obsolete.
This mechanism is commonly referred to as ‘SLP 2.0′ (’system-locked pre-installation 2.0′) and
consists of the following three key elements:

1. The OEM’s hardware-embedded BIOS ACPI_SLIC information signed by Microsoft.

2. A certificate issued by Microsoft that corresponds to the specific ACPI_SLIC information.

The certificate is an XML file found on the OEM’s installation/recovery media,
ususally called something like ‘oemname.xrm-ms’.

3. A special type of product key that corresponds to the installed edition of Windows Vista.

This key can usually be obtained from some installation script found on the OEM’s
installation/recovery media or directly from a pre-installed OEM system.

If all three elements match Windows Vista’s licensing mechansim considers the given
installation a valid system-locked pre-activated copy (that does not require any
additional product activation procedures).

So the basic concept of the tool at hand is to present any given BIOS ACPI_SLIC information to Windows
Vista’s licensing mechanism by means of a device driver.
In combination with a matching product key and OEM certificate this allows for rendering any system
practically indistinguishable from a legit pre-activated system shipped by the respective OEM.

How do I use it?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Preliminary hint:
Most operations described below require elevated privileges, so disabling UAC (Run->MSCONFIG.EXE->
Tools->Disable UAC) for the time being is recommended, Of course, it can be safely re-enabled after
all steps have been performed. Otherwise OEMTOOL.EXE and some SLMGR.VBS operations must be explicitly
run with adminstrative privileges.

1. Install the Windows Vista x86 edition of your choice without entering any product key during setup.
Basically any Windows Vista x86 installation media will do, regardless if it’s MSDN/Retail/OEM/…,
MSDN/Retail are recommended though.

2. Install the emulation driver.

Run OEMTOOL.EXE, select the OEM BIOS information to emulate (ASUS might be a good choice given the
fact that it’s the only OEM for which a complete set of product keys is provided ) and hit the
‘’ button.

Alternatively you can just right-click the ROYAL.INF file and chose ‘Install’ from the appearing
menu. This only allows for installing the default OEM BIOS information (ASUS) though and is strongly
discouraged unless OEMTOOL.EXE fails for some unknown reason.

When prompted about whether to install an unsigned driver, allow it.
(For some odd reason Microsoft didn’t wanna sign this one…)

3. Reboot your machine.

4. Install the OEM certificate matching your OEM selection during driver installation by running

SLMGR.VBS -ilc .XRM-MS

(e.g. “SLMGR.VBS -ilc C:\ASUS.XRM-MS” if you chose to install the default driver and extracted
the certificate file to C:\)

Note that this operation might take quite a while depending on your system, so be patient.

5. Install an OEM product key matching the installed edition of Windows Vista x86 by running

SLMGR.VBS -ipk

(e.g. “SLMGR.VBS -ipk 6F2D7-2PCG6-YQQTB-FWK9V-932CC” if you’re running Windows Vista Ultimate using
the default emulation driver)

Note that this operation might take quite a while depending on your system, so be patient.

6. Run ‘SLMGR.VBS -dlv’ or right-click ‘Computer’ and chose ‘Properties’ to verify your licensing status.

Due to the variety of possible combinations of different earlier Vista activation hacks we’re not gonna
provide details on ‘persuading’ existing installations to accept this method.
During our test the general procedure depicted above worked out fine though, i.e. installing the emulation
driver, rebooting the machine and then using the officially documented ways of installing a matching OEM
certificate and product key should do the trick in all but the most messed up cases.

What’s that ‘’ button in OEMTOOL.EXE for?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It dumps the BIOS ACPI_SLIC information of any SLP 2.0-enabled OEM system.
The dump can consecutively be used to emulate (’clone’) that information on any other system by specifying
the ‘Custom’ option.
Using this function on a system booted using the emulation driver will give a dump identical to the currently
emulated OEM BIOS information, so be sure to uninstall the driver and reboot the source machine first if you
intend to dump the actual hardware-embedded OEM BIOS data.

What are all those files for?

Remove Watermark From Vista

To all of you using vista! You must have seen the vista evaluation watermark located in the bottom right corner of your desktop. Well, there is no problem with it but unless you dont want that here is a short guide!

1.First of all you need to go to x:\Windows\System32\en-US\ where x is ur "Vista" drive. After u reach here find the file "user32.dll.mui" and rename it to "user32.dll.bak". For this you need to take the ownership of that file. For that go to File Properies->Security tab, and give your user account/group full privileges (that is,permissions).

2. Now download a modified user32.dll.mui file(link below) and place it in the same directory.That's it!! Log off/Reboot and you won't have that watermark.

P.S.: I have tested this in the english version only. Don't use the modified file with another language.

Pocket PC Tweaks and Tricks

Here i am sharing some Pocket Pc tweaks working for Windows mobile 5 and 6.These are basically registry tweaks which enables some wanted options in your Pocket Pc.This includes trick to unlock any windows mobile(5,6 and above)

How to use tweaks

In order to change registry settings, you'll need a registry editor. You can download the free PHM Registry editor here
Note that editing the registry can mess up windows mobile. Always take a backup of your data.

Notations Used:
HKLM = HK local machine
HKCU = HK Current user
WM5 = Windows Mobile 5

Some of the must needed Tweaks.(Above registry editor should be installed first)

1)Unlock your phone first (best way to unlock your windows mobile)

Here are the steps to unlock the phone:

HKLM/Security/Policies/Policies/ 00001001
change the value data 1 ( default is 2 )

HKLM/Security/Policies/Policies/ 00001005
change the value data 40 ( default is 16 )

2)Increase Wireless Connectivity

This tweak increases the connectivity from your pda to your wireless router. Locate to KEY_LM/Software/Wireless/Driver make the Value Data 30, ( or more for faster connectivity )

3)Install CAB Files to SD Card

If you change the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/Apps/Microsoft Application installer
'fAskDest' dword value change to 1 (DEC). It will ask for the installation location each time so you can install on SD card.

4)Prohibit Backlight going to defaults

If you change the backlight settings they will go back to defaults when powered of.
By changing this key, this will not happen anymore.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight\Locklevel
Set LockLevel = 0
Then do a soft reset

The time you set for the backlight will remain now after a power off.

5)Turn Off the blinking led lights

Hkey_Local_Machine/Drivers/Builtin/AllLEDMgr

Change the Index value from 1 to 0

Then do a Soft reset

6)In-call volume change without sound

You can change the following values:

HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\LoudestInCallVolume
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\QuietestInCallVolume
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\StandardInCallVolume

within each of these keys the default 'Script' value is 'p' for 'play'

Change the 'Script' value to blank (erase the 'p')

No more annoying beeps and the volume changes quicker!

7)Repeat notifications for text and email messages

Under HKCU/ControlPanel/Notifications find the following keys for Email and Text messages:

Also find Key 15F11F90xxxx for reminders.

Copy the Options value from the Reminders key and overwrite the options value in both email and text message keys with this value (1073741853)

Once you do this, go to start - settings - sounds and notifications - notifications.
under events, select new email message OR new text message and you'll notice that th repeat option that was greyed out is now enabled and can be selected.

8)Animate Open and Close of programs

First Unlock your phone by using the first trick given here,then follow these steps:

HKLM/System/GWE/Animate
Set the value data 1 ( default is 0 )
Soft reset your phone

9)WM5: Animated Menu

Create key named AniType (if not exist)
HKLM/System/GWE/Menu/AniType
Set the value data 1 ( default is 0 )

SoftReset your phone

10)Change your Operator Names

Step by Step guide to change Your Operator names:

Find HKLM/Software/Microsoft/RIL/OperatorNames and Create new string.
String name must be your operator codes. String value to any words.

11)Increase Bluetooth Microphone Volume

There are many posts and topics about increasing the bluetooth mic volume. As many as there are suggestions, there are also unanswered questions.
It has taken me many many days to experiment with different tweaks in my attempt to increase the microphone volume of my bluetooth headset (it was really soft and sounded very "distant").

Finally I found a solution that works for me.
Many sites and forums I came across sugggest changing values in "RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME", "EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME", "SPEAKER_UPLINK_VOLUME", "HEADSET_UPLINK_VOLUME" to "CC" and adding new entries like "MicVolume" in "AudioGateway" if it doesnt exist and even changing the bluetooth headset channel from "2" to something higher.

It may have worked for some but none of them worked for me. There seems to be much confusion about which controls what. After many tries, I decided to set all values back to the original (I did keep a record of what I changed) and give it one last go and now I am plenty glad I did cos now my bluetooth mic volume is just about as loud as speaking into the device directly.

This is the ONE and ONLY value I changed;

HKLM\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN\HEADSET_UPLINK_VOLUME = 10 (DWORD hexadecimal).

(original is "0A". The volume seems to be limited at this level but its good enough for me. I think the "limiter" is preventing it from going any higher)

Things I did...
Changed - HKLM\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN\RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME = CC (now reverted back to its original = 00)

Changed - HKLM\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN\EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME = CC (now reverted back to its original = 19)

Changed - HKLM\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN\SPEAKER_UPLINK_VOLUME = CC (now reverted back to its original = 10)

Changed - HKLM\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN\HEADSET_UPLINK_VOLUME = 10 (Keeping only this setting)

Added - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\MicVolume (now deleted)

Changed - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\capability = 74 (now reverted back to its original "37")

Overall, the transition to Mac OS X was relatively smooth, but one of the rough periods for professional graphic designers was Illustrator 10. This first native OS X version was the poster child for reasons to wait to move to Mac OS X on older hardware, since everything was glacially slow compared to Illustrator 9 on OS 9. This wasn't all Adobe's fault, and there were worse culprits for sure. Eventually, updates made it incrementally faster, and with version 12, it was finally zippy enough to run on a first-gen G5 without feeling like you were designing in bullet time.

Okay, it wasn't that bad, but Adobe knew it had issues with the older code; with CS3, they've completely overhauled the drawing engine to get a much larger boost and bring an end to any nostalgia for the speedy—yet crashy—days of yore. Of course, this update also comes with Universal Binary Intel Mac support, a new interface, and some things called "new features" that we'll also take a look at.

It was today in the agency doing a sketch when I realized that needed a photo for the model of the place that was designing, I sought inside the images of our bank of images, but nothing served so I had to begin to seek in ShutterStock (lease photos place) we generally buy photos in that place for some projects, but this time only needed a photo for the (if the client approves is bought it the photo) nevertheless ShutterStock does not withdraw the watermarks in the previews (thing that if does for the clients the famous one ImageBank)

I began to work then with the photo with the watermark, but the truth is that had me complicated since this not so transparent mark ruined me the design. So I gave me to the task to retouch the photo to remove him the watermark, I began with the inkpad, the tie, the feather, but nothing, the photo only was remaining worse:

After login, click on "Template".

Click on "Edit HTML"

Scroll down and on the left side, click on "Revert to Classic Template" and click "OK"

Open your new downloaded template from your desktopp using any text editor, i.e. Notepad and click "Copy"

Dreamweaver 8 has a new tabbed document window, much like the tabbed browsing found in the Firefox and Safari Web browsers, so instead of hunting through a cascade of document windows, you switch to any open file by just clicking a tab. In addition, the new Workspace Layouts let you save any arrangement of floating panels. This helpful feature lets you set up the program to match different projects—for example,you can neatly arrange all the panels you need to work with database-driven Web sites—or, if you share a computer, you can save a layout of panels that matches your specific work style.

Designers will be pleased with two new features commonly found in design programs: Zoom and Guides. If your design requires pixel-level placement, you can zoom in on the document to make sure your graphics align correctly, or you can just use the Zoom to make it easier to work with small table cells. The new Guides feature lets you drag guidelines onto your page so you can more easily align elements and structure your page. The guides also let you measure, in pixels, the distance between items on a page. This is a great way to make sure you’ve placed a banner in an exact spot in a document.

The new unified CSS panel (right) is the command and control center for creating and editing CSS styles and analyzing the complex interactions of styles on your pages.

Dreamweaver 8 sports many enhancements to its Cascading Style Sheet support. It renders CSS more accurately than Dreamweaver MX 2004 ( , January 2004 ) and includes the ability to correctly display CSS pseudo elements like :first-line and :first-letter, styled form fields, and styles that use the CSS Overflow property.

To make working with styles easier, all of the disparate panels relating to CSS in MX 2004 have been collected into one unified pane (see screenshot at right). Now, you can more easily create and edit styles, quickly see which styles are available on a page, and determine how such styles affect the appearance of an element

One very useful addition is the ability to see all style properties that apply to a selected element. Since styles cascade—meaning properties from multiple styles can combine in different ways to impact the formatting of content—this lets you identify not only what properties a given element will finally have, but also see which styles those properties belong to (CSS experts will be pleased that Dreamweaver now can show a style’s specificity simply by hovering over the style in the Rules pane.) Since CSS styles can be complex, this is a great tool for those new to the ins and outs of CSS as well as seasoned professionals who need to debug complex style sheets.

In addition, new visualization tools make it easier to troubleshoot intricate CSS layouts. When you select an item that has CSS padding or margins applied to it, Dreamweaver displays light-colored backgrounds indicating where and how large the margins and padding areas are. Dreamweaver outlines CSS block elements (for example a

tag used for displaying the banner area of a Web page), and can also highlight block-level elements with a variety of background colors to quickly identify their location and size.

A new Style Rendering toolbar also helps you visualize the effect of different media style sheets on a page. For example, you can turn off “screen styles”—styles that only display on a monitor—while turning on “printer styles” so you can preview what a page would look like when printed (Dreamweaver 8 also makes it easy to attach these media-specific style sheets to your document). Or you can temporarily turn off all styles to see the clean, unformatted HTML.

==Improved stability and performance==

Dreamweaver 8 is faster and more stable than MX 2004. For example, recreating a site cache, which requires reading every file in your site, is substantially faster in Dreamweaver 8.

And Dreamweaver 8 introduces a revamped FTP engine, which is a bit faster, but more importantly, adds a much-requested feature: background FTP. In MX 2004 and earlier versions, whenever Dreamweaver transferred files from your hard drive to your Web server, you had to wait until it was finished before you could do any other work. This meant you either had to take a coffee break or switch to another program. Now, you can keep working on your Web pages as Dreamweaver transfers files quietly in the background. Also, to help transfer files, a greatly improved file-synchronization command—it actually works reliably—ensures that your Web server has the most current versions of your Web documents.

Dreamweaver 8’s XSLT authoring features are an innovative approach to adding XML data to Web sites.

With this feature, you can convert an XML file into a beautiful Web page, or add formatted XML information to a part of a dynamic page—a PHP, ASP, or ColdFusion page,

Even if you’re not working with XML files now, you can still take advantage of this feature. Imagine adding a “News from Around the World” box to your home page that includes headline news from CNN, The New York Times, and the BBC World Service. Since news feeds are comprised of XML data, Dreamweaver 8 makes it easy to add content from other sites directly to your own Web pages.

XSLT is much more complex than HTML, but Dreamweaver 8’s visual-authoring approach makes using this very complicated technology as easy as creating a basic Web page.
